Position Summary
Intern will assist in creating content for outreach-focused science communication to broad audiences, as well as content to highlight EarthScope’s science-support activities to stakeholder communities. Specific projects will be selected based on skillset, interest, and growth goals. Tasks may include contributing to organizational news stories and science summaries, interviewing other interns, creating and posting content on social media, updating and creating webpages, digital or print graphic design, and creating videos. Successful applicants will have basic technical skills working in an online environment, be highly organized, be an enthusiastic learner, and have excellent attention to detail. Support for attending a national science conference following the internship is available.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce writing, graphics, or video for communications purposes.
- Create and edit web content.
- Develop compelling and engaging social media posts.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Required Qualifications
- University-level student or above in Earth sciences or relevant STEM field.
- Interest in working at the intersection of science and communication.
- Authorized to work in the United States for the duration of the internship.
Preferred Experience
- Experience working in WordPress or other web content management system.
- Experience with social media platforms in a professional or organizational context..
- Experience with graphics software (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop), video creation, or data visualization tools.
- Experience translating complex scientific concepts to non-scientific audiences.

Position Summary
The Cloud OnRamp Intern will support EarthScope’s Cloud Research OnRamp initiative by contributing to the development and curation of cloud-based Jupyter Notebook resources used in geophysical research and training. The intern will work with the GeoLab JupyterHub platform to organize domain-specific example notebooks, improve documentation, and support short courses that introduce researchers to cloud-native workflows. This role offers hands-on experience at the intersection of geoscience, data science, and scientific user experience design.
Key Responsibilities
The intern will:
- Curate and organize a GitHub-based collection of domain-specific demonstration Jupyter Notebooks for geophysical research.
- Assist in drafting and refining contribution guidelines to support community sharing and collaborative maintenance of notebooks.
- Gather and summarize example use cases for Jupyter Notebooks across geophysical disciplines.
- Support EarthScope technical short courses by organizing, testing, and improving instructional notebooks used in GeoLab.
- Contribute to short-course documentation, including course setup, account access, and pre-course preparation materials.
- Explore and develop tools and/or approaches that enhance the user experience within EarthScope’s JupyterHub environment.
- Participate in regular team meetings and communicate progress via Slack and Zoom.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Required Qualifications
- Current upper-level undergraduate student, graduate student, or recent graduate (within 1 year) in geosciences.
- Experience creating, editing, and running Jupyter Notebooks.
- Experience using GitHub or other version control systems.

Preferred Experience
- Familiarity with cloud computing or high-performance computing (HPC) environments.

Position Summary
The Computing and Data Science Academy Intern will support EarthScope's technical courses by developing, improving, and consolidating pre-course modules that prepare participants for successful learning experiences. The intern will focus on building foundational instructional materials that ensure students arrive ready to engage with technical content. This role is ideal for a student interested in the intersection between instructional design and geophysics content knowledge, identifying and addressing prerequisite skill gaps, and creating reusable educational resources for scientific computing education.
Key Responsibilities
The intern will:
- Develop new pre-course modules addressing foundational skills such as Python basics, command line usage, content and scientific computing prerequisites.
- Review and consolidate existing pre-course materials from multiple courses to create consistent, reusable modules that can be adapted across EarthScope's technical course portfolio.
- Test pre-course module content, including Jupyter notebooks and interactive exercises, to ensure they run cleanly in GeoLab and are accessible to learners with varying technical backgrounds.
- Analyze past student evaluations, instructor feedback, Moodle data, and course retrospectives to identify common prerequisite knowledge gaps and prioritize pre-course module improvements.
- Develop assessment tools (quizzes, self-checks, readiness diagnostics) that help students gauge their preparedness for technical courses.
- Create documentation and instructor guides that explain how to customize and deploy pre-course modules for specific course contexts.
- Test and refine pre-course module sequencing to ensure appropriate scaffolding and clear learning progression.
- Optionally attend EarthScope technical courses to better understand how pre-course preparation impacts the learner experience.

Position Summary
The intern will be responsible for educational resources development, technical support documentation, and data processing/presentation. Potential topics could include near-surface and other geophysics methods applied to addressing societal challenges such as natural hazards, environment monitoring, infrastructure assessment, and more.
Key Responsibilities
The intern will:
- Develop or refine technical support documentation for geophysics instrumentation and/or software
- Develop or refine teaching materials to support teaching with Earth science data and methods
- Process or reconfigure geophysics data for incorporation into learning activities (ex. electromagnetic, GPR, GPS/GNSS, and others)
- Manipulate data and images in software such as GIS (e.g. ArcGIS), Adobe Photoshop, or Adobe Illustrator
- Help prepare (and maybe teach) materials for workshops, webinars, or outreach events.
- Attend regular meetings and share progress on assigned tasks.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
